I am a highly experienced psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist who has worked in the NHS at the Tavistock Clinic for 17 years and as a senior clinician and Lead Child Psychotherapist at Enfield CAMHS for a further 12+ years.
I am now retired from the NHS and work part-time in independent practice.
I am also an active grandma with lots of hands on experience of children and adolescents.
I have a limited number of spaces to offer for regular psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy with adolescents and young adults up to 25 years of age. I generally work with young people who may be suffering from moderate to severe depression or who are simply finding it difficult to cope with the demands and complexities of modern life for a range of emotional reasons.
I understand that longer term, weekly psychotherapy is a big commitment, so it is important to start with an initial exploration.
I like to meet with parents, to think with them about their child’s developmental history and the issues bring them to seek treatment.
Following this, I would offer a short series of appointments to the young person to explore whether they find it helpful to think together with me, in depth, about their current difficulties.
The aim would be for them to develop over time through gaining better insight into their difficulties, and in this way to discover ways to overcome the issues which have been holding them back.
When working with complex situations I may prefer to work alongside colleagues such as psychiatrists, in order to manage any potential risk.
However, longer term work is not always needed and sometimes just a few sessions can help a young person enormously.
I can be available to support parents who are concerned about their child or adolescent even when the young person themself may not wish to be seen for treatment.
Based on my long experience in this complex area of work, I also offer supervision, consultation and teaching to professionals who work directly with young people and are seeking to develop psychoanalytically based understanding in their work.
Areas of specialisation:
I have a seven year doctoral level clinical training . Prior to this I have been a teacher, counsellor in a secondary school and an infants teacher. I am also qualified as an Educational Psychologist.
My standard fee is £85 per 50 minute session, plus the cost of the room use at Wellshare Consulting Rooms. I can offer online sessions from time but prefer to meet face to face whenever this is practical.
